Petition Seeking Protection For Egyptian
Coptic Priest Under Death Threat
July 2, 2010
Father Estefanos Shehata, a Coptic priest,
from Samalout, Egypt is under Death Threat.
Muslim elders of his village have issued a
death Fatwa (religious edict) against him,
and have banned him from entering his
village because he wants to convert part of
his family home into a hall where he can
carry out funeral and marriage ceremonies.
The village is 200 kilometers south of Cairo
and it has no churches; religious functions
for the 2000 Coptic Christians are performed
on the street.
In video interviews father Estefanos said
"Enough humiliation and persecution of the
Copts, I do not fear death and issuing a
Fatwa to spill my blood is an honor for me."
The interviews are available on
www.Hopesat.tv as well as on youtube.com
Hope Sat Tv calls upon the government of
Egypt to exercise rule of law by thoroughly
investigating the severe offenses against
father Estafnos Shehata. We urge Egyptian
courts to justly prosecute convicted
perpetrators.
Sincerely,
Hope Sat Tv (and attached)
