Dear freedom loving
A mother of a twin boys
Mario and Andrew, aged 15 years old. The
father converted to Islam in the year 2002,
left the house, and married another woman.
The mother took the responsibility of
raising the boys. She assumed the full
responsibility and devoted her life for the
children. When she went to the court asking
the father for child support to help her to
raise the boys, the court denied her request
on the basis that she refused to accept to
be the second wife (as per the Islamic
sharia law) and she refused to go to (the
House of obedience - the house that the
Moslem husband usually prepares for the
woman to force her to submit to him as per
the Islamic sharia law as well).
The mother put her trust
in God and the life went on naturally.
But the father changed
the religion of his sons to Islam in 2006
and applied for custody even though he had
not lived with the family. According to
sharia (Islamic law) custody of minor
children and influence over their religious
status belongs to the Muslim parent.
The 15-year-old boys,
however, will still be considered Muslims
despite their desire to remain Christian.
Andrew and Mario should
have the right to choose their faith.
We call upon the
government of Egypt to exercise rule of law
and respect their right to choose their
faith. We urge Egyptian courts to hold fair
trials and to justly rule in the case.
Sincerely,
undersigned |
